Five Ways To Overcome

Self-Doubt.

Self-doubt. We’ve all been there. It’s inevitable to occur in any human experience.

Self-doubt is that inner voice that dictates your actions, and prevents you from reaching your full potential. It ultimately holds you back from achieving greatness. It’s normal to have moments of self-doubt, but it’s unhealthy to have it all the time. This is because you will constantly have moments where you sell yourself short. We don’t want you to do that, because you’re better than that.

Yes, although self-doubt does occur to everyone, it’s important to discover strategies to help mitigate it. We all are capable of reducing the ramifications of self-doubt if we put in the work to better ourselves.

Below lists five ways you can overcome self-doubt and restore your power.

Acknowledge self-doubt.

The first step to tackling the issue of self-doubt is to recognize it, as opposed to suppressing it. Understanding that self-doubt is a normal part of the human experience is vital. This is because it will allow you to restore your power and take control of your circumstances that you are trying to overcome. This will allow you to acknowledge your self-doubt quickly before allowing it to exasperate.

Stop comparing yourself to other people.

Typically, many people experience self-doubt because they compare themselves to others. However, what people fail to recognize is that the people they are comparing themselves too only share the highlights of their life. The people that you are comparing yourself to endure adversity and difficult times, but they just aren’t shared with the public. It’s easy to look at a successful person and think everything came easy to them. Chances are, it didn’t (Although they might act like it did).

Therefore, once you stop comparing yourself to others, you will slowly start to focus on yourself and progress. Before you know it, you will appreciate how far you’ve come, and how much more you can accomplish.

Try your best to focus on yourself, and yourself only.

Surround yourself with good people, who make you feel good.

Ever heard of the phrase, ‘you are who your friends are’? Well, that’s very true when it comes to the concept of self-doubt. Take a moment and think about the people you surround yourself with. Reflect on it.

Ask yourself:

  • Are they helping me grow?

  • Are they positive?

  • Are they holding me back?

  • Do they motivate me?

  • Do they want me to win?

These are very important questions to think about. A lot of self-doubt can be defeated if you surround yourself with people who uplift you, and motivate you to be the best version of yourself. The people around you should help you grow, be positive, should not hold you back, and want you to win. If they don’t do these things, you should reconsider the kinds of people you allow in your life. They’re actually holding you back and further amplifying your self-doubt.

Be kind to yourself.

Self-doubt can definitely be a confidence killer. You can even start to feel emotions of anger when things aren’t going as planned. However, continuing to feel anger towards yourself or your circumstance will only hurt you in the long run.

It’s important to take healthy approaches to help navigate emotions of anger. The easiest way is to be more kind to yourself. Ask yourself a simple question: What can I do right now to change my perspective of this situation? Taking a moment to ask yourself questions like this can help improve your circumstance and mood, and thus, your confidence will ultimately start to improve.

Celebrate small victories.

Isn’t it interesting that in life, we dwell on our losses, as opposed to celebrating our victories. Whether a big or small victory, you need to relish in them. Don’t be afraid to pat yourself on the back for accomplishing a win, even if it’s a small one. Once you acknowledge your small victories, you will start to build the confidence for more victories. Building this kind of momentum is advantageous for your long term growth to help conquer any self-doubt.
